Time and Intentionality

Ephesians 5:15-17 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise. Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

My husband and I were in a deep discussion recently about the freedom of time. This often comes up when we are looking at what’s on our schedule for the day and the plans we have. Our discussion came to us asking each other, how are we intentional with making time for the Lord? God blesses us with the gift of time each day. We each receive the gift of 24 hours at our disposal. We have the freedom to invest the gifted time however we want. The caveat is after the 24 hours is up, what we don’t use is lost. We don’t get to keep any of the time that was given for another day. Many of us, if not all, sort our time by investing it in things that we feel would be overall a good return on investment for our lives. This ROI could be in the form of jobs yielding a return of money. Education and schooling yield a ROI of knowledge. Even sleep yields a ROI of rest. From there we continue to prioritize and fill our day with things that are most important to us. Some of you are so diligent in prioritizing your day, you use calendars, lists, and organizers that will plan your time down to the second.

We discussed that we all ultimately get the same amount, no more, no less. How do we not waste it, but most importantly, how do we utilize that time intentionally for the Lord?

What time are we investing back for him in the time we’ve been gifted?
